EU Issues Eight RASFF Alerts for Chinese Food Products in One Week

ECHEMI 2025-06-16

According to the EU RASFF notification for Week 23 of 2025, eight cases involving Chinese food and related products were flagged for violations, ranging from unauthorized substances to excessive toxin levels. These alerts highlight ongoing challenges with compliance in international exports.

Key cases include:

  • Dried mushrooms from China were flagged twice in Spain (06/02 and 06/05) for containing unauthorized substances, leading to market withdrawal and official detention.
  • Matcha tea in France (06/03) contained thiamethoxam residues (0.20 mg/kg), exceeding the permitted limit of 0.05 mg/kg. Products were rejected at the border and marked for destruction.
  • Cloud mushroom extract in Latvia (06/04) was identified as an unauthorized novel food, resulting in re-export.
  • Miso paste in Finland (06/06) contained unauthorized GMO components, with distribution details pending as the product was detained.
  • Peanuts in France (06/06) contained excessive aflatoxins (20 µg/kg), far exceeding the legal limit of 4 µg/kg. The shipment was destroyed.
  • Milano Drop Skin Drops in Ireland (06/06) failed to declare allergens and had misleading labeling, prompting a public warning.

The EU's strict food safety policies continue to enforce compliance, offering lessons for exporters to ensure adherence to regulatory standards.
