NIPPON Invests 20 Million Yuan to Expand Ship Paint Production Amid Growing Demand
With China's shipbuilding industry surpassing 100 billion yuan in market value, Nippon Paint (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. is investing 20 million yuan to build a 23,040-ton epoxy ship paint production line in Changshu. This marks a strategic shift as the company scales down its DIY wood paint production to focus on eco-friendly, low-VOCs ship paints, meeting the growing demand for corrosion protection and sustainable shipping solutions.
Nippon's decision aligns with China's booming shipbuilding industry, expected to maintain a steady growth rate of 2% annually, with industrial output projected to exceed 4 trillion yuan by 2028. The company’s latest move will make Changshu its second ship paint factory in China, complementing the first one in Zhangjiagang, which has an annual capacity of 24,000 tons.
The new facility will manufacture epoxy ship paints for diverse ship areas, including ballast tanks, hulls, and cargo holds, meeting the GB 38469-2019 harmful substance limits. Nippon's ship paints, such as the FASTAR line, incorporate advanced nano-resin and hydrogel technologies to reduce drag and fuel consumption, offering up to 14.1% energy savings for vessels.
With China's shipbuilding orders rebounding to a five-year high and global green shipping trends driving fleet upgrades, Nippon is poised to capitalize on the 110-billion-yuan ship paint market projected for 2024.
