Formic Acid Prices Sideways; Future Plant Maintenance Plans Scheduled
February 26 News
According to the commodity market analysis system: The price of formic acid has recently shown a sideways consolidation trend. As of February 28, the benchmark price for 85% industrial-grade formic acid is 2,450 CNY per ton, unchanged from before the Chinese New Year.
In terms of supply, demand, and inventory, the current market is in a dynamic balance, with the overall inventory level being manageable. From the supply side, the recent operation status of formic acid enterprises in China has been relatively stable. In terms of inventory, the stock levels of formic acid enterprises in China are generally in the upper-middle range, with the overall inventory level being under control. There is neither significant inventory clearance pressure due to overstocking nor supply shortages causing tension. The inventory is within a reasonable operating range, providing a guarantee for the stability of market prices.
The March plant maintenance plan will become the core variable that breaks the current balance and affects market trends. According to market information, two large formic acid production enterprises in Shandong (Aside and Luxi Chemical) have a combined 350,000 tons of facilities scheduled for maintenance in March. This maintenance plan will directly reduce the total market supply and may disrupt the current supply-demand balance. At the same time, as temperatures rise, downstream industries will gradually enter a demand recovery period from March to April, with market demand expected to see a slight increase. The supply-demand pattern is likely to shift toward "tight supply and increased demand," thereby providing support to formic acid prices. There is a possibility of a phased price increase.
Formic acid data analysts believe that the current Chinese formic acid market is in a stable phase of consolidation, with stable prices, balanced supply and demand, and manageable inventory as the core characteristics. The large-scale plant maintenance plans in Shandong region in March and the expected recovery of downstream demand will be key factors affecting the market trend. Specific attention still needs to be paid to the implementation of maintenance and changes in market supply and demand.
