Shandong Announces $14 Million Investment in Lithium Battery Recycling and Graphene Projects
The Feicheng City Government in Shandong Province has announced a 100 million yuan ($14 million) investment by Shandong Huajin Battery Materials Technology Co., Ltd. to establish a facility for NMP solvent recycling, graphene conductive materials, coated foil utilization, and precision dismantling of used lithium batteries.
Graphene, a cutting-edge nano-carbon material, has vast potential in lithium-ion batteries, fuel cells, photovoltaics, and advanced manufacturing. In battery applications, graphene slurries enhance electrical and thermal conductivity, improving performance when added to electrode materials.
NMP (N-Methylpyrrolidone) is a high-efficiency solvent critical for lithium battery electrode production. Its strong stability and recyclability make it essential for sustainable battery production. With the rapid growth of the battery industry, NMP waste recycling and battery reuse offer significant prospects.
The project will include:
- 5,000 tons/year of lithium iron phosphate cathode material recovery.
- A 5-ton NMP solvent distillation and purification system.
- A new laboratory for quality and performance testing of recovered materials.
This initiative aligns with China's push for green energy solutions, with the first phase focusing on 50,000 tons/year of cathode material recovery and repair.
