Givaudan Introduces New Labdanum Absolute for Fragrance Creations
Givaudan’s Fragrance Ingredients division has launched a new natural extract designed to impart a distinctive olfactory signature to personal care and fine fragrance products.
Crafted at the company’s House of Naturals in Grasse, France, the Labdanum Absolute SIGNature is derived from the cistus plant, which grows in Spain’s Andalusia region.
Givaudan describes the absolute as evoking the radiant warmth of the Mediterranean coast, offering a dry, lingering amber note complemented by subtle woody and mineral undertones.
“Our innovation team has harnessed advanced processing techniques to transform raw cistus resin into a finely tuned labdanum absolute,” said Paul-Erwan Camenen, Head of Fragrance Ingredients Business at Givaudan. “This development reflects our strategic commitment to providing high-performance natural ingredients that add value for our customers, while also showcasing our dedication to advancing the natural fragrance sector.”
The cistus plants are carefully hand-harvested and processed at a facility near Seville, honoring a long-standing local tradition. Harvesting is carried out selectively to ensure the preservation of Andalusia’s unique environmental heritage, fully complying with regional ecological regulations.
