India Hosts Policymakers from 22 Countries to Strengthen Global Drug Standards

On June 16, India inaugurated the Second Policymakers' Forum at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan in New Delhi, bringing together representatives from 22 countries to advance global collaboration on drug standards and access to affordable medicines. The event, organized by the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, also highlighted the success of India’s Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) initiative.

Key speakers included Anupriya Patel, Minister of State for Health, who emphasized India’s leadership in providing affordable healthcare and regulatory harmonization for global health equity. The event was also attended by senior officials from Liberia, Kenya, Chile, and other nations, reaffirming India’s role as a trusted global health partner.

The forum featured technical sessions on pharmacopoeial standards and India's regulatory systems, with presentations by Dr. Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi, Drug Controller General of India, and Ravi Dadhich, CEO of Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices Bureau of India. Delegates also toured IPC’s state-of-the-art laboratories and leading pharmaceutical facilities to understand India’s cutting-edge infrastructure.

Building on momentum from the 2024 forum, where multiple nations recognized the Indian Pharmacopoeia as a global standard, this year’s event further solidified partnerships and laid the groundwork for long-term regulatory convergence.

India’s growing credibility in the pharmaceutical sector and its commitment to "Health for All" underscore its proactive role in advancing global drug standards and equitable access to medicines.
