South Korea to Revise Food Safety Standards Feedback Open Until July 16

On June 25, 2025, the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) issued Announcement 2025-286, proposing revisions to the Food and Livestock Product Safety Management Certification Standards. Stakeholders have until July 16, 2025, to provide feedback.

The revisions include the following key updates:

1. New Definitions and Requirements for Global Standards
   Guidelines for Global Food Safety Management Systems and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) standards will be introduced, including detailed certification criteria.

2. Enhanced Safety Management to Prevent Intentional Contamination
   Recognizing the global trend toward integrated systems for food defense and fraud prevention, the MFDS aims to strengthen safeguards against intentional contamination, food terrorism, and fraudulent practices involving counterfeit raw materials or products. Certified HACCP companies will need to implement food defense plans, allergen management, and product labeling systems.

3. Lowering Administrative Burden for Businesses
   To reduce operational complexity, the proposed changes will allow automated monitoring of critical control points (CCP) instead of requiring manual measurement.
