INEOS Styrolution Launches Bio-based Polystyrene for Food Packaging

ECHEMI 2025-07-11

INEOS Styrolution, the world’s leading styrenics manufacturer, has successfully commercialized its 100% bio-based polystyrene, Styrolution PS 158K BC100. Food trays made from this bio-based material have been available in Japan since early 2025 in partnership with a well-known retail chain.

Styrolution PS 158K BC100 is produced using an ISCC-certified material balance approach and is made from 100% bio-based feedstock. It has a significant carbon footprint reduction of 172% compared to conventional fossil-based polystyrene.

“We are very excited to reach this milestone in integrating bio-based materials into everyday life,” said Marcela Villegas, Vice President, Business Management Asia Pacific, INEOS Styrolution. “This achievement shows that sustainability can be achieved while fully complying with regulatory standards, enabling businesses to advance their environmental goals without compromising on quality or safety.”
