7 Food Categories From China Face Automatic Detention in US After New FDA Alert

The US FDA has issued a new import alert impacting a broad range of products from a Guangdong-based company, according to the agency’s latest update on July 10, 2025. The action, under Import Alert 99-32, targets Long Fei Foods Co., Ltd. in Shantou, covering seven categories including cereals, ice cream, vegetables, fruits, and meats.

The reason for this automatic detention is the company’s refusal to undergo an FDA inspection. Under the alert, products are subject to Detention Without Physical Examination (DWPE) at US ports. This means shipments are held automatically and can only be released after passing FDA or recognized third-party lab testing, followed by review and approval from the agency’s local branch.

Import alerts are triggered when there are potential safety concerns. While automatic detention does not necessarily mean the goods violate US standards, it places a significant compliance burden on exporters. Affected products must now clear extra hurdles before being allowed into the US market.

Industry insiders warn that exporters should stay vigilant and ensure full cooperation with regulatory authorities to avoid costly delays and reputational risks.
