Yangon Cuts Palm Oil Purchase Limit to 4.1kg per Order New Policy Effective August 4

Yangon’s Household Palm Oil Distribution Committee has announced a new policy: starting August 4, households can only buy up to 2.5 viss (about 4.1 kg) of edible palm oil per order—down from the previous limit of 2.75 viss (4.5 kg) per month. The move aims to ensure fair access for families across all 44 townships via home delivery.

Prices will be set weekly, reflecting wholesale guidance and delivery costs. No advance payment is needed; consumers can pay when the oil is delivered, though shipments may arrive up to three days after ordering.

To streamline service, 14 districts and 44 townships have established call centers, taking orders Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm. Last week’s wholesale benchmark price was set at 6,130 kyat per viss.

The committee emphasizes the policy’s goal is to make palm oil more accessible and manageable for all Yangon families amid ongoing supply pressures.
