WACKER Launches Next-Gen Polysilicon Line in Germany 50 Percent Capacity Boost Targets Semiconductor Demand

ECHEMI 2025-07-30

On July 17, WACKER Chemie AG unveiled a new next-generation production line at its Burghausen site in Germany, dedicated to manufacturing ultra-high-purity polysilicon for the semiconductor sector. CEO Christian Hartel highlighted to over 100 guests that WACKER remains Europe’s only—and the world’s largest—supplier of semiconductor-grade polysilicon, underscoring its global technology leadership.

With this upgrade, WACKER increases its top-grade semiconductor polysilicon output by more than 50%, creating about 150 new jobs. The company aims to double its semiconductor customer sales by 2030 compared to 2024 through this major investment.

The expansion is part of the EU’s Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI) in microelectronics and communication technologies. WACKER’s R&D innovations have secured up to €46 million in funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, the Bavarian Ministry for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, and the European Union.
