KCC Silicone and LG Household & Health Care Forge Strategic Alliance to Co-Develop Advanced Silicone Polymers for UV Protection
On July 23, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was officially signed at KCC’s headquarters in Seocho-dong, Seoul, marking the beginning of a new collaboration between KCC Silicone and LG Household & Health Care. The event was attended by key executives, including Kang Nae-kyu, Chief Technology Officer at LG Household & Health Care, and Liam Song, CEO of KCC Silicone.
The partnership aims to create next-generation UV protection materials by merging KCC Silicone’s expertise in ultra-high-purity silicone technologies with LG Household & Health Care’s deep experience in developing advanced cosmetic formulations. The joint initiative will focus on crafting high-performance silicone polymers that not only offer superior UV shielding but also deliver a refined sensory experience for consumers.
As part of the agreement, the two companies will engage in joint research to develop innovative silicone-based compounds specifically designed for sun care applications. This includes co-developing new sunscreen formulations that incorporate these materials, followed by comprehensive efficacy assessments.
Beyond product development, both parties have committed to building a collaborative framework for ongoing research, knowledge sharing, and academic activities. The scope of this joint effort is also expected to expand into broader skincare material research in the near future.
“With the growing impact of climate change, UV protection is no longer seasonal—it's a year-round necessity,” noted Kang Nae-kyu. “By integrating high-performance UV-blocking capabilities with pleasant sensory attributes, we aim to launch globally competitive sun care products that meet evolving consumer needs.”
Echoing the sentiment, Liam Song added, “This MoU strengthens our mutual commitment to innovation in the Korean beauty sector and enhances our global market presence. Leveraging the combined technological assets of both companies, we’re determined to deliver premium, value-driven solutions to clients worldwide.”
