Huntsman Q2 Net Loss Hits $158 Million Revenue Down 7 Percent Cost-Cutting Ramps Up as Demand Slumps

ECHEMI 2025-08-17

On July 31, Huntsman reported second-quarter revenue of $1.458 billion, a 7.4% drop year-on-year, as global construction and industrial slowdowns weighed heavily on results. The company posted a net loss of $158 million for the quarter, reversing a year-ago profit of $22 million, while adjusted EBITDA plunged 43.5% to $74 million.

For the first half of 2025, revenue slid 6% to $2.868 billion and net loss widened to $163 million. Adjusted EBITDA for the six months fell 31.1% to $146 million, highlighting persistent margin pressure across all divisions.

Chairman and CEO Peter R. Huntsman noted that seasonal growth in construction demand was notably absent, and the outlook for Q3 remains muted. In response, Huntsman is accelerating restructuring: the company has closed its Moers maleic anhydride plant in Germany and is shutting additional downstream facilities in Europe and North America. The ongoing cost-reduction plan—launched at the end of 2024—will ultimately cut nearly 10% of Huntsman’s global workforce, with the deepest reductions in Europe.

Polyurethanes revenue dropped 7% in Q2, hit by both lower prices and volumes. Adjusted EBITDA for the segment tumbled 61%. Functional Products sales fell 10%, with EBITDA down 30%, while Advanced Materials posted a 5% decline in sales and a 13% drop in EBITDA, as coating and aerospace demand weakened.

Huntsman achieved positive cash flow in Q2 and remains focused on liquidity and balance sheet strength. With ongoing cost cuts and a shrinking workforce—impacting around 600 staff globally—the company is doubling down on resilience amid a challenging macro backdrop.
