Ashland Q3 Sales Drop 15 Percent but EBITDA Margin Holds at 24.4 Percent Self-Help Actions Boost Outlook
Ashland has released its Q3 2025 financial results, reporting $463 million in revenue—a 15% year-over-year decrease—but maintained a resilient adjusted EBITDA margin of 24.4%. Adjusted EBITDA came in at $113 million, down 19% from last year, as the company navigated sales declines across all business units through aggressive cost controls and portfolio streamlining.
The Life Sciences segment stood out, generating $162 million in sales with a robust 33.3% EBITDA margin, despite a 17% sales dip. Personal Care sales fell 16% to $147 million, while Specialty Additives revenue dropped 13% to $131 million, with margins pressured by weak coatings demand, especially in China, and fierce competition in emerging markets. Intermediates posted $33 million in revenue, down 8% due to lower pricing.
Ashland attributed the overall sales drop to deliberate portfolio shifts, lower volumes in specialty additives and personal care, and modest price reductions. However, after adjusting for portfolio actions, the underlying sales decrease was a more moderate 5%.
The company is actively divesting non-core operations (like Avoca), consolidating manufacturing (including the closure of New Jersey's Parlin and Chatham sites), and relocating production lines to improve efficiency and cut costs. These self-help moves, along with strict operational discipline, have strengthened Ashland’s resilience in a volatile macro environment.
Looking ahead, Ashland now forecasts full-year sales of $1.825–1.85 billion and adjusted EBITDA of $400–410 million, reflecting confidence in its ongoing transformation.
