EPA Reviews Bayer’s New Fungicide Fluoxapiprolin for US Crops Disease Control Expanded Risk Assessed as Low
The US EPA has announced a public comment period on Bayer’s application to register products containing the novel active ingredient Fluoxapiprolin, targeting a wide spectrum of crop diseases. This innovative fungicide is set to protect vegetables such as brassicas, cucurbits, solanaceous crops, potatoes, grapes, and various leafy greens.
EPA’s assessment finds no significant health or environmental risks when used according to label instructions. Fluoxapiprolin, developed by Bayer in 2011, offers a new tool for managing downy mildew, late blight, and phytophthora, and is expected to strengthen Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs for US growers.
Belonging to FRAC Group 49 (F9), this piperidinyl-thiazole isoxazoline compound shares its mode of action—OSBP inhibition—with fluoxastrobin, making it highly effective against oomycete pathogens. The EPA’s review also confirms no adverse impact on endangered species under current use proposals.
Fluoxapiprolin already holds registrations in Australia and New Zealand for fruit and vegetable disease control, but remains unregistered in China. The EPA’s final decision will follow the public comment period and evaluation under federal pesticide law.
