Paint Giant PPG Announces Global Price Hike
The global coatings market has been hit with major news. On April 15, PPG announced that due to soaring costs and ongoing supply chain volatility, it will raise prices across its entire product portfolio globally, with increases of up to 20%.
In a statement, PPG explained that the price hike is primarily driven by "significant volatility and supply constraints" in global petrochemical and logistics markets. Costs for raw materials, energy, transportation, packaging — nearly every link in the chain — are rising sharply, putting immense pressure on the coatings supply chain.
Paints, coatings, and specialty products will all be subject to the adjustment. The specific implementation will depend on customer circumstances or be carried out where contract terms allow.
PPG also revealed that price increases in certain segments or regions could exceed 20%, and if market conditions continue to deteriorate, the company does not rule out further pricing actions.
Tim Knavish, PPG's Chairman and CEO, emphasized in the statement: "Even as markets shift rapidly, we remain committed to delivering consistent quality, reliable supply, and expert technical support to our customers. This price adjustment is necessary to ensure we can maintain supply in the face of unexpected cost pressures."
Alongside the price increases, PPG's procurement, manufacturing, and logistics teams are operating at full capacity. The company is leveraging its global production footprint and vast supplier network to offset various disruptions. The goal is clear: to keep product flowing despite mounting pressure across the entire value chain.
Significant fluctuations in input costs have forced PPG to make difficult trade-offs between "maintaining price stability" and "ensuring supply reliability." For the company, securing uninterrupted supply in the current environment means customers must bear higher prices.
