Isopropyl Alcohol Market Prices Continue to Fall in August in China

I. Price Trends

According to the commodity market analysis system, isopropanol prices in China continued to decline in August. On August 1, the average price of isopropanol in China was 5,900 CNY/ton, and by August 29, the average price had dropped to 5,608.33 CNY/ton, a decrease of 4.94% compared to the beginning of the month.

In August, the isopropanol market price continued to decline. In the first ten days, the continuous downward trend of the raw material acetone market affected the market confidence of isopropanol. The downstream market demand was weak, and inventories increased, leading to a decrease in the isopropanol market price. In the middle of the month, the isopropanol market was mainly driven by rigid demand, with limited transactions, and the market continued to decline. In the latter part of the month, the isopropanol market saw light trading, with general negotiations, and the market price decreased. As of now, in Shandong, most isopropanol market quotations are around 5,450-5,500 CNY/ton; in Jiangsu, most isopropanol market quotations are around 5,650-5,600 CNY/ton.

In terms of acetone raw materials, the Chinese acetone market experienced a decline in August. On August 1, the average price of acetone was 4,820 CNY per ton, dropping to 4,600 CNY per ton by August 29—a price decrease of 4.56%. Currently, the acetone market remains at a low level, with moderate trading activity. Market sentiment is generally subdued, and prices are expected to continue fluctuating within a weak range.

In terms of propylene, the market price of propylene in China rose in August. On August 1st, the average market price was 6,403.25 CNY/ton, and by August 29th, the average price had increased to 6,663.25 CNY/ton, with a price increase of 4.06%. Currently, propylene enterprises have low inventory levels, and the cost pressure on downstream sectors is gradually becoming apparent. Many are adopting a wait-and-see attitude, and it is expected that the market will mainly undergo consolidation in the short term.

The isopropanol analyst from the Chemical Sub-branch believes: In August, the market price of isopropanol continued to decline. Currently, the trading atmosphere in the isopropanol market is average, with cautious real orders, and the market is mostly stagnant. It is expected that in the short term, isopropanol will mainly remain stable, with more attention paid to the trend of the raw material market.
