This week, the acetic acid market in China has shown a strong trend
August 29 update
According to the commodity market analysis system, the acetic acid price trend this week showed a slight increase. On the 29th, the average market price of acetic acid was 2420 CNY/ton, an increase of 20 CNY/ton from the price of 2400 CNY/ton on August 25th, with a price increase of 0.83%. The acetic acid prices in China were strong, and the prices in various regions showed an upward trend. On the supply side, the Henan Shunda plant was shut down, reducing the capacity utilization rate of acetic acid. At the same time, with the traditional peak season approaching, the sentiment of enterprises has improved, and the main focus is on firming up acetic acid quotations. Downstream demand is steadily following, the market trading atmosphere is acceptable, and the shipment of enterprises is good, leading to an overall upward trend in the acetic acid market.
Recently, the upstream methanol market has shown a weak downward trend. As of the 29th, the average price in the Chinese market was 2,241 CNY per ton, a decrease of 2.82% compared to the price of 2,306 CNY per ton on August 25th. With the resumption of methanol plants in China, the market supply has increased, but the domestic market demand is insufficient, leading to poor buying interest at high prices, and the transaction focus of methanol has declined.
The downstream acetic anhydride market in China saw a slight increase, with the average ex-factory price rising from 4082.50 CNY/ton to 4092.50 CNY/ton between August 25 and 29, a price increase of 0.24%. The upstream acetic acid market is strong, and industry sentiment is optimistic, which has increased the upward momentum for acetic anhydride. Downstream buyers are mainly purchasing according to their needs, and the market trading atmosphere is decent. Supported by cost benefits, the price trend of acetic anhydride has risen.
Looking ahead, acetic acid analysts note that while the capacity utilization rate for acetic acid saw a slight decline this week, it remains relatively high overall. Meanwhile, market inventory levels remain robust, and supply-side support continues to be limited. On the downstream side, traders are largely adopting a wait-and-see approach, with little immediate demand for restocking. As a result, the underlying fundamentals in the market remain weak. Analysts expect acetic acid prices to fluctuate and consolidate in the near term, with future price movements likely dependent on how downstream sectors respond.
