August 29 update

August Isobutanol Prices Fluctuate and Decline in China

According to the commodity market analysis system, as of August 29, the price of 2-ethylhexanol was 7,283.33 CNY/ton, a decrease of 3.32% from the price of 7,533.33 CNY/ton on August 1. In August, the operating rate of 2-ethylhexanol production facilities in China increased, with the operating rate rising from less than 80% in July to 95% by the end of August. Additionally, new capacity for 2-ethylhexanol was added, leading to an increase in supply. The operating rates of downstream plasticizer enterprises remained high, and the demand for 2-ethylhexanol from plasticizers improved. Despite the increase in supply and the recovery in demand, the price of 2-ethylhexanol fluctuated downward in August.

Downstream plasticizer DOP prices fluctuate and decline in China

According to the commodity market analysis system, as of August 29, the DOP price was 7617.50 CNY/ton, a fluctuating decrease from the DOP price of 7955.83 CNY/ton on August 1, with a price decrease of 4.25%. In August, the DOP price fluctuated and decreased, with increased downward pressure on the price of the raw material 2-ethylhexanol; in August, the operating load of DOP enterprises remained high, DOP production increased, and the demand for 2-ethylhexanol recovered, with support for the 2-ethylhexanol price still present.

Future Market Expectations

The octanol product data analyst notes that on the supply side, increased operational rates at isooctanol plants, combined with the commissioning of new isooctanol production capacity, have led to a significant rise in isooctanol supply. On the demand side, fluctuating and declining DOP prices are putting additional downward pressure on isooctanol prices. Looking ahead, with both supply and demand expected to grow, the analyst anticipates that isooctanol prices will likely remain weak and consolidate in the near term.
