Air Atmosphere Dominates as Polyester Bottle Flakes Market Weakly Declines
September 05, News
According to price data, the polyester bottle chip market in China was weak this week. As of September 5, the average selling price of PET was 5897 CNY/ton, a decrease of 1.15% from the beginning of the week.
On the cost front: Crude oil prices declined this week, leading to generally weak and volatile polyester costs. Cost support has collapsed, while downstream demand remains steady—driving buyers to replenish inventories opportunistically at lower prices. As a result, the supply-demand dynamics currently show no significant positive catalysts, causing the PET market to see an expanding price decrease.
Currently, the market is characterized by a dual weakness in both cost and demand. The lack of robust cost support for polyester bottle flake prices means there’s little room for prices to rise, making it difficult to push them upward.
Supply side: Mainstream factories in China continue to reduce production, which provides some support to prices. However, the buffering effect of supply control is limited and is unlikely to change the overall weak trend.
On the demand side: Downstream demand remains weak, with procurement primarily driven by rigid demand. Only after prices plunged sharply on Thursday did some companies take advantage of lower prices to replenish their inventories, briefly boosting trading activity—but overall, the market still lacks the momentum needed for significant volume growth.
Looking ahead to next week, the cost side is under pressure due to the "Golden September, Silver October" season not meeting expectations, and in the short term, PET market prices may fluctuate narrowly along with the cost side. The end-users mostly purchase as needed, and the market lacks the momentum for increased volume. The actual trend will still need to pay attention to subsequent changes in external news, facility changes, and demand recovery. The price of bottle chips is expected to weakly fluctuate within the range of 5800-5950 CNY/ton.
