Supply Shortage Leads to Increase in Activated Carbon Prices
September 12, News
According to the commodity market analysis system: At the beginning of the week, the price of activated carbon in China was 12,933 CNY/ton, and by the end of the week, it had risen to 13,000 CNY/ton, an increase of 0.52%.
Chinese activated carbon prices from manufacturers increased this week. The factory price for coconut shell activated carbon used for water purification in East China is between 9,500 and 13,000 CNY per ton. Currently, the supply of coconut shells remains tight, and the demand for coconut shells from new energy battery porous carbon materials is rising, intensifying the competition for raw materials. This has led to a decrease in the production capacity and a shortage in the supply of coconut shell activated carbon, resulting in price increases.
From the supply side, major coconut-producing regions in Southeast Asia have been hit by natural disasters, leading to reduced yields. As a result, Chinese companies with high import dependency are facing rising costs. Additionally, coconut production in countries like the Philippines and Indonesia has also been affected, further tightening the availability of coconut shell raw materials. Meanwhile, growing demand for coconut shell-based activated carbon—particularly in sectors such as new energy batteries and gold extraction—is driving prices higher.
Forecast: Demand in the Chinese market is expected to rise, and as a result, activated carbon prices are likely to remain volatile but generally stronger in the short term.
