Styrene-Butadiene Rubber Market Trends Slightly Down

ECHEMI 2025-09-18

September 17, News

Recently (9.8~9.17), the SBR (styrene-butadiene rubber) market in China has slightly declined. According to the commodity market analysis system, as of September 17th, the price of SBR in the East China market was 12,250 CNY/ton, a decrease of 1.93% from 12,491 CNY/ton on September 8th. The prices of raw materials butadiene and styrene have slightly decreased, leading to a slight reduction in the cost of SBR. The tire production downstream is basically stable, providing stable demand support for SBR; the SBR production is also basically stable. As of September 17th, the mainstream prices for SBR 1502 from Fushun, Jilin, Yangzi, and Qilu in the East China region were around 12,200 to 12,350 CNY/ton.

Recently (9.8~9.17), the prices of raw materials butadiene and styrene have slightly decreased, weakening the cost support for SBR. According to the commodity market analysis system, as of September 17, the price of butadiene was 9,266 CNY/ton, a decrease of 1.42% from 9,400 CNY/ton on September 8; as of September 17, the price of styrene was 7,324 CNY/ton, a decrease of 1.03% from 7,400 CNY/ton on September 8.

Recently (September 8-17), the operation of styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) plants in China has been basically stable, at around 69% capacity.

Company Plant Capacity (10,000 tons/year) Operational Status
Qilu Petrochemical 23 Operating Normally
Jilin Petrochemical 14 Running on Three Lines
Yangzi Petrochemical 10 Operating Normally
Shenhua Chemical 18 + 22 Operating Normally
Lanzhou Petrochemical 15 Running on Three Lines
Fushun Petrochemical 20 Shut Down for Maintenance
Li Changrong (Huizhou) 5 Operating Normally
Zhejiang Weitai 10 Operating Normally
Hangzhou Yibang 10 Operating at Full Capacity

Supply and Demand Overview: Recently (Sept. 8–17), downstream tire production remained generally stable, providing solid support for the demand-driven styrene-butadiene rubber market. As of September 11, Chinese tire companies saw semi-steel tire production capacity slightly increase to around 73%, while all-steel tire production in Shandong province edged down to approximately 64%.

Market Forecast: From a fundamental perspective, analysts believe that the current supply and demand for styrene-butadiene rubber remain relatively stable. However, if raw material prices rise again following the Federal Reserve's interest rate cut, this is expected to drive the price of styrene-butadiene rubber higher.
