NHU and Sinopec Advance Liquid Methionine Project
On September 5, NHU announced progress at its joint venture with Sinopec, Ningbo Zhenhai Refining & Chemical NHU Biotechnology Co., which has successfully produced qualified output from its 180,000 t/year liquid methionine project. After trial operations, the plant entered a scheduled 3–4 week maintenance shutdown in early September, with further progress to depend on market conditions and operational results.
Methionine is the only sulfur-containing essential amino acid and a key animal feed additive. Historically, global methionine production was dominated by Evonik, Adisseo, Novus, and Sumitomo, due to high technological barriers. NHU broke this monopoly with its proprietary clean production process, achieving its first industrial-scale success in 2017.
NHU’s innovation has earned 12 national patents and recognition for reaching international standards. The company’s financial performance reflects this momentum: in 2024, NHU reported RMB 21.61 billion in revenue (+42.95% YoY) and RMB 5.869 billion in net profit (+117%). In H1 2025, revenue rose to RMB 11.1 billion (+12.8% YoY) and net profit to RMB 3.6 billion (+63.5%).
