"Golden September Fails to Appear" Shandong Normal Butanol Prices Decline in September
September 24 News
According to the commodity market analysis system, as of September 24, 2025, the benchmark price for n-butanol in China's Shandong region was 5,916 CNY per ton, remaining virtually unchanged compared to September 13. However, compared to September 1 (when the benchmark price was 6,100 CNY per ton), prices have dropped by 184 CNY per ton, representing a 3.01% decrease.
The "Golden September" effect was not evident, and the n-butanol market in Shandong, China, showed a downward trend.
According to the commodity market analysis system, China's Shandong region experienced an overall volatile and declining trend in the n-butanol market throughout September. In early September, n-butanol prices gradually fell, with traders shifting their focus toward lower levels. By September 12, n-butanol hit its monthly low, trading at around 5,916 CNY per ton. In mid-September, the market remained largely unchanged, as underlying fundamentals stayed stable, leading to a period of consolidation and price stabilization. Toward the end of the month, n-butanol prices saw a narrow correction, though mid-month they briefly rebounded slightly by 50 CNY per ton. As of September 24, n-butanol prices in the Shandong region were hovering around 5,900–6,000 CNY per ton.
Market Factor Analysis
Supply Aspect: Supply Under Pressure with Active Sales and Declining Market Sentiment
In September, the overall supply of n-butanol in the Shandong region of China was relatively loose, with some supply pressure on the supply side. Some factories and suppliers actively shipped goods to maintain low inventory, but the support from the supply side to the market was inadequate.
Demand aspect: Downstream demand is relatively cautious, and pre-holiday inventory buildup was below expectations.
In early September, the downstream demand for n-butanol was cautious, with mainly rigid demand procurement, and the support from the demand side to n-butanol was weak. As the end of the month approached, downstream users made small-scale preparations before the holiday, leading to an improvement in low-price transactions of n-butanol, and a slight upward trend in the market. Overall, throughout September, the demand performance still fell short of expectations.
Market Forecast
Currently, trading activity for n-butanol within the market remains moderate, as downstream users are taking advantage of lower prices to build up their inventories, though they still maintain a cautious stance toward higher prices. Overall, market conditions are stable. Analysts at the n-butanol data center predict that, in the short term, the n-butanol market will likely continue its steady-to-strong trend—though specific developments will depend on pre-holiday sales dynamics and downstream inventory-building activities.
