Röhm has officially launched its new methyl methacrylate (MMA) production plant in Bay City, Texas, marking the full-scale operation of its LiMA technology in North America.
The facility is the first C2-based MMA plant in North America and represents the global debut of Röhm’s proprietary LiMA (Leading in MethAcrylates) process at industrial scale. The plant has an annual capacity of 250,000 tons of MMA, a key raw material used in acrylic glass, coatings, adhesives, and resins for industries such as automotive, construction, and healthcare.
The project is part of Röhm’s long-term investment in strengthening regional supply chains in the U.S. Gulf Coast. The site uses ethylene-based feedstocks and is designed for improved efficiency, reduced energy and water consumption, and lower CO₂ emissions compared to conventional MMA production routes.
The Bay City plant was developed in cooperation with OQ Chemicals and supported by Advent International, which invested about USD 1.6 billion in Röhm to support technology deployment and expansion.
With the ramp-up now complete, the facility is operating at full industrial capacity and reinforces Röhm’s strategy of “in the region, for the region” supply security for North American customers.
