Röhm expands PMMA production capacity
Röhm is convinced that plexiglas molding compounds will remain an indispensable material for numerous industries in the future, offering ideal solutions for new requirements and trends. Despite the difficulties facing the entire chemical industry due to the global crisis, the company remains committed to its ambitious investment plan for PMMA production.
With a significant increase in global production capacities and a broad portfolio of PMMA special molding compounds under the plexiglas, pleximed and cyrolite brands, the Molding Compounds Business Unit is in a very good position.
“The PLEXIGLAS molding compound portfolio is continuously evolving to meet market requirements,” said Siamak Djafarian, head of the Molding Compounds Business Unit. The latest addition is the PLEXIGLAS proTerra molding compound, which combines a reduced carbon footprint with the proven performance of the PMMA brand.
The company’s largest Plexiglas molding compound production site in Worms, Germany, added a new production line in February 2024, as well as an additional compounding facility for colored PMMA products. The new plant uses more energy-efficient production processes and significantly reduces the carbon footprint of molding compound production. After all, sustainability is an integral part of Röhm's business strategy.
In mid-2024, Röhm also significantly increased the production capacity of its Wallingford, Connecticut, USA plant by converting existing production lines to enable faster delivery of products to customers. The Wallingford plant has more than 50 employees and operates several production lines for the production of special PMMA molding compounds. It is also an important production site for Cyrolite, a high-quality, transparent, acrylate-based plastic that is mainly used in medical technology. In China, Röhm is also continuing to strengthen its market position by expanding the capacity of its Shanghai PMMA plant and expanding its compounding plant.
By investing in cutting-edge production technology, expanding capacity and innovating, Röhm and its Molding Compounds business unit are well prepared for the future. "We are the only global manufacturer of MMA and PMMA with downstream compounding production facilities in the three main regions of Asia, Europe and North America. This makes Röhm the world's leading manufacturer of PMMA molding compounds. Our products, reliable deliveries, short delivery routes and on-site technical service make us a partner that our customers around the world can rely on," emphasizes Djafarian.
