Wacker Launches Silicone-Based Immersion Cooling Fluid for Data Centers

ECHEMI 2026-08-06

In August 2026, Wacker Chemie introduced Helisol EC, a silicone-based immersion cooling fluid designed specifically for data center thermal management.

Helisol EC is a single-phase immersion cooling fluid formulated with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) , a linear silicone compound. Electronic components are fully submerged in the non-conductive liquid to absorb heat without phase change. The product operates across a temperature range of –100°C to +100°C and features a flash point exceeding 200°C, ensuring safety in data center environments.

Wacker highlights the fluid's PFAS‑free composition. Conventional immersion coolants often rely on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which face tightening regulatory scrutiny due to their environmental persistence and potential health risks. Wacker positions its silicone-based coolant as a lower-hazard alternative to PFAS-containing products.

Helisol EC builds on Wacker’s existing Helisol industrial heat transfer fluid portfolio. The product is manufactured primarily at Wacker’s production site in Burghausen, Germany. With over 70 years of experience in silicones, Wacker is recognized as a global leader in silicone technology and market innovation.
