ECHEMI 2026-09-30

September 29 report:

I. Price Trends

Taking the sulfuric acid method rutile titanium dioxide, which has a large volume of sales in the Chinese market, as an example, according to data monitoring, the price of titanium dioxide in China rose in September. On September 1st, the average price of titanium dioxide was 14,060 CNY per ton, and on September 29th, the average price of titanium dioxide was 14,220 CNY per ton, with a price increase of 1.14%.

II. Market Analysis

In September, the price of titanium dioxide in China increased. Led by the major companies, several titanium dioxide enterprises such as Jinhua, Dawn, and Titan followed suit and issued notices to raise their prices. The price of titanium dioxide in China was generally increased by 700 CNY per ton, and the export price was increased by 100 US dollars per ton. So far, the quotations for sulfate process rutile titanium dioxide in China are mostly between 13,300 and 15,700 CNY per ton; anatase type is around 12,800 to 14,500 CNY per ton. The prices from the enterprises are relatively firm, and the peak season of September for the Chinese titanium dioxide market has initially shown, but it is not as strong as expected. The downstream sector is still resistant to high-priced supplies, and there remains considerable pressure to sell after the new orders' price increase. The market is filled with a wait-and-see atmosphere, and the follow-up purchases from the terminal market are limited, leading to a deadlock in the supply and demand game.

It is reported that on September 21, 2026, the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission decided to suspend the application of anti-dumping measures on titanium dioxide (titanium white) originating from China, with the suspension period lasting until August 10, 2027 (inclusive). This decision is somewhat beneficial for the export of titanium dioxide.

According to customs data, in August 2026, the import volume of titanium dioxide was 5,403.37 tons, a year-on-year increase of 57.48% and a month-on-month decrease of 0.51%. Among them, the import of chloride process titanium dioxide was 3,487.29 tons, a month-on-month increase of 7.02%; the import of sulfate process titanium dioxide was 1,916.08 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 12.02%. From January to August 2026, the cumulative import of titanium dioxide was about 42,700 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 15.30%. Among them, the cumulative import of chloride process titanium dioxide was 26,080.72 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 15.15%; the cumulative import of sulfate process titanium dioxide was 16,668.21 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 15.52%.

In August 2026, the export volume of titanium dioxide from China was approximately 144,100 tons, a year-on-year increase of 3.86% and a month-on-month decrease of 0.21%. Among this, the sulfate process exported about 105,600 tons, a month-on-month increase of 0.29%; the chloride process exported 38,500 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 1.55%. From January to August 2026, the cumulative export of titanium dioxide from China was 1,356,800 tons, a year-on-year increase of 14.01%. Among this, the cumulative export of the sulfate process was 1,018,500 tons, a year-on-year increase of 5.72%; the cumulative export of the chloride process was approximately 338,300 tons, with a year-on-year increase of 49.21%.

III. Future Market Outlook

Titanium dioxide analysts believe: Currently, the demand for titanium dioxide in China is moderate, with companies having a strong intention to maintain prices, leading to a stalemate in the supply and demand dynamics. It is expected that in the short term, the market will mostly adopt a wait-and-see attitude, with flexible trading, and actual transaction prices will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
