I. Price Trends

Taking the sulfuric acid method rutile titanium dioxide, which has a large volume of sales in the Chinese market, as an example, according to data monitoring, the price of titanium dioxide in China slightly increased in October. The average price of titanium dioxide on October 1st was 14,220 CNY per ton, while on September 29th, the average price was 14,260 CNY per ton, with a price increase of 0.28%.

II. Market Analysis

In October, the market price of titanium dioxide in China saw a slight increase. In the first half of the month, with the momentum from the golden September, there was a small upward adjustment in prices. However, the market in the second half of the month was noticeably less satisfactory, and overall, the mainstream price remained stable. So far, the quotations for sulfate process rutile titanium dioxide in China are mostly between 13,300 and 15,700 CNY per ton; while anatase type is around 12,800 to 14,500 CNY per ton.

Internationally, several countries have launched anti-dumping investigations into Chinese titanium dioxide.

On October 7, the UK’s Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) issued a preliminary recommendation to impose a five-year hybrid anti-dumping duty on titanium dioxide of the rutile type originating in China.

On October 16, 2026, Japan’s Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry announced the initiation of a joint anti-dumping investigation into pigments and preparations whose primary constituent is rutile titanium dioxide originating in China.

On October 24, 2026, India’s Ministry of Finance reissued Notification No. 26/2026-Customs (ADD), reinstating anti-dumping duties on titanium dioxide imports from China. The duty rate remains unchanged at USD 460–681 per tonne, with a validity period of five years.

According to customs data, in September 2026, titanium dioxide imports totaled 6,425.19 tons, up 18.91% month-on-month and slightly higher by 0.67% year-on-year. Of this, chloride-process titanium dioxide imports amounted to 4,174.85 tons, a month-on-month increase of 19.72%, while sulfate-process titanium dioxide imports reached 2,250.34 tons, up 17.44% from the previous month. From January to September, cumulative titanium dioxide imports stood at approximately 49,200 tons, down 13.5% year-on-year. Specifically, cumulative chloride-process titanium dioxide imports were 30,255.57 tons, a year-on-year decline of 11.51%, and cumulative sulfate-process titanium dioxide imports totaled 18,918.55 tons, down 16.51% compared with the same period last year.

According to customs data, in September 2026, China exported approximately 175,900 tons of titanium dioxide, a month-on-month increase of 22.04% and a year-on-year increase of 12.49%. Among these, the export of sulfuric acid process titanium dioxide was about 131,200 tons, a month-on-month increase of 24.22%; the export of chloride process titanium dioxide was 44,700 tons, a month-on-month increase of 16.06%. From January to September 2026, the cumulative export of titanium dioxide from China reached 1,356,800 tons, a year-on-year increase of 0.77%. Among these, the cumulative export of sulfuric acid process titanium dioxide was 1,149,700 tons, a year-on-year increase of 5.38%; the cumulative export of chloride process titanium dioxide was approximately 383,000 tons, with a year-on-year increase of 49.91%.

3. Future Market Forecast

Titanium dioxide analysts believe that the current Chinese titanium dioxide market is sluggish, with relatively sufficient supply, but poor demand. In addition, the expectations for the international market are not optimistic. It is expected that titanium dioxide will operate weakly in the short term, with actual transaction prices negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
