BASF and CATL reached strategic cooperation
On September 16, BASF and CATL announced the establishment of a strategic partnership in the field of battery material solutions. The cooperation includes positive electrode active materials (CAM) and battery recycling, and aims to develop a sustainable battery value chain to promote the localization of CATL in Europe and help achieve the global carbon neutral goal.
CATL is the world's leading new energy innovation technology company, committed to providing first-class solutions and services for global new energy applications. CATL’s first European factory is under construction in Germany, aiming to realize localized production of Lithium-ion batteries, marking that CATL is accelerating the pace of building a local supply chain for European customers and consumers.
As the world’s largest supplier of chemicals for the automotive industry, BASF has established a strong market advantage in the field of cathode active materials, with manufacturing and R&D footprints all over the world, and has a wide range of anode active materials including medium-to-high nickel, Manganese-rich, and cobalt-free cathode active materials. Product portfolio. In Europe, with its advanced process technology, optimized clean energy mix used in the production process, a guaranteed local raw material supply chain, and a shorter and more efficient supply chain logistics, BASF's cathode material production will achieve industry-leading carbon Footprint.
Through cooperation with BASF, CATL will form a localized battery recycling network and create a guaranteed raw material supply chain, thereby enhancing customer service capabilities in Europe.
The strategic cooperation with CATL will enable BASF to cooperate closely with the world's leading battery suppliers in the field of cathode materials and battery recycling, which will further deepen BASF's professional accumulation and strengthen its global market position.
Zhou Jia, President of CATL said:
The establishment of a partnership with BASF is an important step in our process of localization in Europe. With the innovative battery technology of CATL and BASF's deep expertise in the material field, we will further enhance our ability to serve global customers and accelerate the realization of the global carbon neutral goal.
Dr. Kelly, member of the Executive Board of BASF Europe, said:
The transition to electric transportation requires strong partnerships throughout the value chain. Combining BASF's leading position in the global cathode active material market and CATL's strong expertise in lithium-ion batteries will accelerate innovation and accelerate the formation of a sustainable battery value chain on a global scale.
