Investment of 340 million yuan! BASF plans to build 90,000 tons/year MDI project
Recently, the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment publicized the information on the impact assessment of the MDI refinement and expansion project of Shanghai BASF Polyurethane Co., Ltd. before submission for approval. The project plans to invest a total of 340 million yuan to build an MDI production capacity of 90,000 tons/year refined equipment and supporting storage tank area.
Basic situation of the project
1. Project name: MDI refinement and expansion
2. Construction unit: Shanghai BASF Polyurethane Co., Ltd.
3. Construction content and scale: The project plans to build an MDI production capacity of 90,000 tons/year refining equipment. MDI products include pMDI, ME, MI, etc.
4. Construction site: Shanghai Chemical Industry Park
5. Project Nature: Expansion
6. Construction period: The project is scheduled to start in January 2022 and be completed and put into production in August 2023
Origin of the project
Shanghai BASF Polyurethane Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "SBPC") was established in March 2003. It is located in Shanghai Chemical Industry Park and covers an area of approximately 250,000 square meters. It is one of the three Sino-foreign joint ventures that form the Sino-foreign joint venture Shanghai United Isocyanate Project.
The Shanghai United Isocyanate Project is composed of Shanghai Lianheng Isocyanate Co., Ltd. (SLIC), Shanghai Huntsman Polyurethane Co., Ltd. (HPS) and Shanghai BASF Polyurethane Co., Ltd. (SBPC). The three companies set up projects and build at the same time, with independent legal personality. SBPC is dominated by phosgene products and has formed a series of polyurethane products based on toluene diisocyanate (TDI) and diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI). It currently has a TDI production capacity of 220,000 tons/year and an MDI production capacity of 210,000 tons. /year.
In production and operation, SBPC relies on other companies in Shanghai Chemical Industry Park to provide basic raw materials such as chlorine, crude MDI, and supporting utilities to form a circular economy industrial chain.
Due to market demand, SBPC plans to carry out MDI refining and expansion in the chemical industry zone to engage in MDI products (including isocyanate polymethylene polyphenylene ester pMDI, diphenylmethane 4,4'-diisocyanate ME, (1 ,1'-methylene bis[isocyanatobenzene]MI), and build an MDI production capacity of 90,000t/a refining equipment. The total investment of the project is planned to be 342.35 million yuan. The project will start in January 2022 and be completed and put into operation in August 2023. .
