The Japanese polyurethane chemical giant announced that it will stop producing TDI!
Recently, Japan’s major TDI supplier Tosoh (formerly NPU) announced that it will stop the production and sales of TDI and TDI-related products in April 2023.
It is understood that the company started to produce TDI in the Nanyang plant of the former Nippon Polyurethane Industry Co., Ltd. in 1962, and has been developing for more than half a century.
Tosoh said that although it has been implementing revenue improvement policies, the business environment has become more severe in recent years and there is no possibility of improvement in the future. Therefore, it has decided to abandon the TDI business and plans to stop production in April 2023. Tosoh's TDI business includes TDI monomer production capacity of 25,000 tons per year, and TDI related products (adhesives, thermosetting resins, etc.).
Founded in 1935, Tosoh is the second largest TDI manufacturer in Japan. Its TDI products are mainly used in elastomers, coatings, adhesives, sealants and other industries, mainly for the Japanese, Chinese and Korean markets.
