Tosoh Unveils 2050 Carbon Neutrality Plan
Recently, Tosoh Japan announced its 2050 carbon neutrality plan. The company said it will invest about 120 billion yen (about 1.05 billion U.S. dollars) in total in the company's greenhouse gas reduction efforts, of which about 60 billion yen will be invested between 2023 and 2025.
It is reported that Tosoh will use internal carbon pricing to assess the cost of different levels of greenhouse gas emissions as a reference point for its investment decisions, and will increase the unit price of greenhouse gas emissions to further promote energy conservation.
The company said its main greenhouse gas reduction goal is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from its thermal power generation facilities. Tosoh plans to phase out coal and other fossil fuels that produce large amounts of greenhouse gases, replacing them with biomass, liquefied natural gas, and carbon dioxide-free hydrogen and ammonia fuels.
It is reported that the company will also cooperate with external research institutions and the Japanese government to develop technologies to separate and capture carbon dioxide emitted from power generation facilities and production processes. These technologies will make carbon dioxide a raw material for making polyurethane and other products.
