Does Tesla book 45GWh lithium iron phosphate battery from CATL? The two new energy giants responded!

ECHEMI 2021-11-02

There was news last week that Tesla had booked 45GWh lithium iron phosphate batteries from CATL, mainly for Model 3 and Model Y models.

Regarding the news, the media learned after verifying that Ningde Times stated that it would not respond; a Tesla related person said, "I didn't know this information before, and it cannot be confirmed at this time."

According to Tesla's official information, Model 3 and Model Y equipped with lithium iron phosphate batteries are both standard battery life versions. The former has a battery capacity of 55 degrees (kWh) and the latter has a battery capacity of 60 degrees. Based on this preliminary calculation, 45GWh of battery orders will correspond to nearly 800,000 cars.

This has surpassed Tesla's total global sales in the first three quarters of this year. As of the third quarter of this year, Tesla has sold 627.35 million vehicles worldwide.

In addition, data shows that Tesla’s purchase of Ningde-era lithium iron phosphate batteries has accounted for 19% of its total shipments, making it the largest customer.
