Polycarbonate PC turns out to have so many uses
To understand the purpose of PC, we must first know what is PC? Its Chinese name is polycarbonate. Polycarbonate is a kind of plastic. Around us, many daily necessities are made of polycarbonate, such as buckets, baby bottles, helmets, sunglasses and so on.
(1) Sheets for the construction industry
PC board has excellent dimensional stability, impact resistance, heat preservation, transparency, and aging resistance. It has been successfully used in the construction of many international large stadiums. The built stands and outer walls have high transparency to ensure sufficient The sunlight exposure minimizes the supporting structure, so it is light and transparent.
For example, the domestic Tianjin Olympic Center Gymnasium, Shenyang Olympic Center Gymnasium, Shanghai Qingpu District Gymnasium, etc. all use PC board.
(2) Auto parts
Because of its excellent heat resistance, impact resistance, rigidity and good processing fluidity, PC is mainly used in automobiles for exterior and interior trim parts, parts around instrument panels, antifreeze panels, door handles, cathodic boards, Car parts such as brackets, steering column sheaths, decorative panels, AIR-conditioning system parts, car light parts, etc.
(3) Pure PC trolley case
PC trolley case, as the name implies, is a trolley case made of PC material. The main feature of PC material is its lightness, and the surface is relatively flexible and rigid. Although it does not feel strong to the touch, it is actually very flexible. The average adult has no problem standing on it, and it is more convenient to clean.
The above suitcases are made of high-quality pure PC materials. This is the material for bullet-proof glass, which has strong impact resistance and can effectively resist external forces during travel.
(4) Medical equipment
Mainly used in the manufacture of artificial hemodialysis equipment, blood collectors, high-pressure syringes, surgical masks and other medical equipment that need to be operated under transparent and intuitive conditions and need to be repeatedly sterilized.
(5) Aerospace
With the rapid development of aviation and aerospace technology, the requirements for various components in aircraft and spacecraft continue to increase, making the application of PCs in this field increasing. According to statistics, there are 2500 polycarbonate components used on a Boeing aircraft alone, and a single plane consumes about 2 tons of polycarbonate.
(6) Electronic appliances
PC materials have the characteristics of good electrical insulation and are used in the field of electronics and electrical appliances. Common ones are: mobile phone shells, notebook shells, and charger shells.
(7) Optical lens
At present, most optical lenses are acrylic, with simple design, short plastic molding time, low cost, light weight, and high light transmittance.
(8) Food contact
The heat-resistant temperature range of PC materials is -45℃-135℃. Beyond this temperature range, PC materials will deteriorate and lose their inherent properties. BPA is generally not released in the range of daily food contact.
Advantages of polycarbonate
(1) Its impact strength is the highest among all engineering plastics, higher than polyoxymethylene, and almost 3 to 5 times that of polyamide, and is similar to phenolic resin and polyester resin reinforced with glass fiber.
(2) It has high mechanical strength. Its tensile and bending strength are similar to those of polyoxymethylene and polyamide, and its elongation at break reaches 90% (25 degrees Celsius). Moreover, the strength is improved at low temperatures, and it does not decrease much at high temperatures.
(3) High heat resistance and cold resistance, can be used for a long time in the temperature range of +130~-100 degrees Celsius. It has no obvious melting point. Its melting temperature is generally between 220 and 230 degrees Celsius, and its decomposition temperature is generally above 300 degrees Celsius. The heat distortion temperature of 18.5 kg/cm2 is 130~140 degrees Celsius, which is higher than polyoxymethylene and only lower than polysulfone and polyphenylene ether. The embrittlement temperature is below minus 100 degrees Celsius.
(4) The transparency is very good, the light transmittance of the film can reach 89%, second only to plexiglass, and it can also be colored.
(5) The products are non-toxic, tasteless and odorless.
(6) The oil resistance is very good. The weight of the sample is basically unchanged after being immersed in gasoline for three months.
(7) Soluble in chloroalkane, the solubility in dichloromethane is 0.31 g/ml, in chloroform is 0.1 g/ml, in tetrachloromethane is 0.33 g/ml, monochlorinated benzene The medium is 0.06 g/ml. Solvents such as benzene, Acetone, ether, and ethyl acetate can swell polycarbonate, but do not dissolve it.
(8) The water absorption is very small. When the relative humidity is 50%, the maximum moisture absorption is 0.16%. If it is not soaked in water at 23 degrees Celsius for a week, the water absorption rate is 0.4%. After soaking in boiling water for a week, the water absorption rate is 0.58%.
(9) The creep value is the smallest among all kinds of plastic materials, a cube of 70 degrees Celsius, 13 mm, and a load of 1,800 kg, the volume change is only 0.282% in 24 hours.
(10) Stable electrical performance.
(11) Good weather resistance, the product has no obvious change in performance after being placed outdoors for three years.
(12) It is self-extinguishing.
