Yunnan pigs are in good condition and less affected by plague.

On April 17th, at a regular press conference held at the Information Office of the Ministry of agriculture and rural affairs, Tang Ke, director of the Ministry of agriculture and rural markets and information technology, said that since the outbreak of the African swine plague last August, the number of live pigs and sows that could breed sows increased year by month. Experts preliminarily estimated that pork prices in the second half of the year may rise by more than 70%. How about the current pork price level in Yunnan Province? Will the pork price rise in the second half of the year? For this, the reporter informed the Agricultural and Rural Department of Yunnan Province and the Development and Reform Commission of Yunnan Province about the relevant situation. On April 18, Guo Jinhua, director and spokesman of the comprehensive Department of the Yunnan Development and Reform Commission, said that after three months of continuous decline in pig prices (the average price of the whole province, the same below), the price of pigs rose again in March, at 14.16 yuan per kilogram, respectively. It rose by 1.87% and 0.50%. The average price of live pigs in January to March was 13.11 yuan/kg, which was 8.42% lower than that in December 2018. "The current market supply is sufficient, and it is expected that the price of pigs will slow down, and the profits and losses of pig farmers will be basically flat." Guo Jinhua believes that with the opening of schools in March and the increase of migrant workers returning to the city, concentrated consumption has affected the prices of live pigs, and there has been a temporary rise. After April, the consumption of live pigs in our province has entered the traditional off-season of consumption. In March, the prices of white striped pigs and pork in Yunnan Province maintained the declining trend since this year, with 18.33 yuan and 24.50 yuan per kilogram, respectively. The ring-to-ring ratio decreased by 6.29% and 6.38% respectively, and 10.89% and 4.33% respectively. At present, pork prices have little effect on the overall price level.
According to industry statistics, in 2018, 42.268 million live pigs were stocked and 61.924 million were stocked, respectively, down 14.64% and 14.49% from the same period last year; 4.215 million sows were stocked, down 15.2% from the same period last year, pork production was 5.29 million tons, down 13.83% from the same period last year; 34.4838 million live pigs were stocked and 15.405 million were stocked in the first quarter of 2019, down 21% and 27% from the same period last year, down 37.894 million sows* 21%, pork production was 1.3798 million tons, down 26% year on year. According to 28 pig price monitoring points in Yunnan Province, the average price of piglets, live pigs and pork in the first quarter of this year decreased by 16.25%, 4.9 and 5.54 percentage points respectively.
The person in charge said that the impact of African swine fever on Yunnan was relatively small, and there was no epidemic in Yunnan's large counties where pigs were transferred, and the stock situation was very good. "Qujing Xuanwei is one of the counties where pigs are transferred from Yunnan Province. Because pigs are not allowed to be transferred out, they can only be consumed in Yunnan Province. In addition, many people misunderstand African swine fever and do not eat pork. The market of pork consumption in Yunnan Province is relatively weak, and pork prices show a downward trend year on year."
