postpartum depression should be intervened as soon as possible

It's a joy to be a mother at the beginning. But some mothers begin to feel depressed, irritable, pessimistic and desperate after giving birth to their babies, and even do harm to themselves and their children. Experts warn that these phenomena are the manifestations of postpartum depression, most of which occur within one year from gestation to postpartum. Families should understand and intervene as soon as possible. According to Lu Jin, deputy director of Psychiatry Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, about 50% to 85% of parturients suffer from postpartum mental disorders, of which 10% to 15% suffer from postpartum depression. The causes of postpartum depression are complex, including past depression history, postpartum hormone secretion disorder, perinatal life stress events, etc. Family members'incomprehension often aggravates the negative emotions of newborn mothers. "Every time I want to express my emotions, my family will say that I think too much, too affectionate." Ms. Wang, who was diagnosed with postpartum depression, said that her depression lasted several months after giving birth to a child. "She felt that she had no energy to take care of her children and was easily stimulated, but her husband thought I was making trouble unreasonably." Ms. Wang said."
In mild to moderate perinatal depression non-drug treatment, partner's emotional and behavioral support is very important." Doctor Lu Jin also pointed out that most cases of postpartum depression may be missed without proper consultation. "Many mothers refuse to go to psychiatric clinics, and there is discrimination and stigma against postpartum depression, which is also an obstacle to treatment." Experts recommend that screening for postpartum depression should be carried out as soon as possible after the occurrence of clinical manifestations of depression which can not be alleviated for a long time, with non-drug treatment such as psychological intervention, mutual help group, exercise and massage. "At present, psychiatry has been basically popularized in hospitals at all levels. Effective communication with family members, facing up to the illness and early medical treatment will be of great help to the role adaptation of mothers and the emotional connection between mothers and infants. Lu Jin said.
