Once applied on the nail, the organic solvent evaporates, leaving the polymer alone on your fingers, which explains why the polish gets hard. Dyes

Adhesive polymers
Adhesive polymers have rather a technical role in a nail enamel, as they don't contribute to making your nails more beautiful. These elements are in charge of making the polish adhere better to your nails. In this way, you don't have to worry about polish peeling off.
Opalescent pigments
These pigments provide a glittery look to your nail polish. They may be in the form of aluminum powder, natural pearls or other elements with glittery effect.
Plasticizers
Low-end nail polishes are usually brittle and easy to crack, especially when you permanently get your hands involved in some kind of work around the house. To prevent scratches and cracks on your polish, you are good to buy a polish containing plasticizers. These elements fortify the polish, making it more resistant to hazards.
This not only keeps your nail pattern as beautiful as on the day of varnish application, but also protects your nails and fingers. For example, you chop some veggies and the knife's blade accidentally goes over your nail. The extra solid polish film will keep the knife from making a deep cut into your nail.
UV stabilizers
Ultraviolet stabilizers are meant to protect the polish from sun's UV rays. If your nail enamel contains this ingredient, extended exposure to sun will not discolor your polish, helping it stay vibrant and glittery.
Does nail polish dissolve in water?
