Spring Fruit Consumption Tips for Consumers all over the World
In the spring, everything revives, the climate changes from cold to warm, the temperature changes in the morning and evening, bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms begin to be active, should eat more fresh vegetables and fruits to replenish the body's vitamins and minerals, and improve the immunity of the body. Recently, the Jiangxi Provincial Bureau of Market Supervision issued consumer tips to remind consumers of the consumption of seasonal fruit considerations.

Strawberries are red, soft and juicy, sweet and sour, rich in vitamin C, vitamin A, ellagic acid, pectin and anthocyanins and other nutrient-active substances. Strawberries need to be stored and cleaned carefully because of their high water content, delicate tissue and lack of peel protection, which makes them susceptible to mechanical damage and microbial infection and spoilage. It is not recommended to remove the tips of strawberries for cleaning, but to rinse them with water for 1-2 minutes and then soak them in light salt water for 5 minutes to reduce the microorganisms on the surface.
Cherries are bright in color, sweet in taste and rich in potassium, which helps control blood pressure. Cherries also contain fiber, vitamin C and rich in polyphenols such as anthocyanins, phenolic acids and flavonoids, which have high antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. It should be noted that cherries do not contain high amounts of iron (0.3-0.4 mg/100 g) and do not have the so-called iron-supplementing effect on blood.
Sugar cane is rich in sugar, vitamins, organic acids, calcium, iron and other substances, fresh and juicy, with a sweet taste. Three points should be noted when consuming sugar cane: sugar cane contains a large amount of coarse fiber, and chewing vigorously will abrade the endothelial cells of the mouth, resulting in oral blisters or oral ulcers, which is not good for oral health, so it is recommended to consume it in moderation or juice; people with special needs for blood sugar control should not consume sugar cane to avoid rapid fluctuations in blood sugar; do not consume moldy sugar cane with discoloration, loose tissue, flocculent white material at the end, and offensive smell. Do not consume moldy sugarcane that is discolored, has flaky tissue, white material at the end, or has a bad taste.
Loquat is rich in carotenoids, B vitamins, malic acid, citric acid and active substances such as bitter amygdalin. Among them, B vitamins and carotenoids can protect eyesight; organic acids can stimulate the secretion of gastric mucus, improve peristalsis and speed up the digestion of food; bitter amygdalin can relieve cough caused by lung heat and has the effect of moistening the lungs and relieving cough. Therefore, it is suitable to eat loquat in the spring when influenza is frequent.
The Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents (2016) recommends that adults should consume 200-350 grams of fruit per day. In addition, fruits that are rotten due to mold and insects may contain toxins and are not recommended for continued consumption; while fruits that are not rotten due to mechanical falls and frostbite can be consumed.
There are not many fresh seasonal fruits in spring, and the fruits in the market mainly come from the inter-seasonal fruits preserved in cold storage and imported fruits, etc. For the inter-seasonal fruit, as long as the standard requirements of planting, preservation, sales, can be safe to eat. For imported fruits, consumers can use their cell phones to check the origin, source, import inspection and quarantine information through the traceability code when purchasing, and carefully confirm whether it is consistent with the actual packaging information.
Fruit waxing is mainly for reducing water evaporation and preserving freshness and corrosion. According to GB2760-2014 "Food Safety National Standard for the Use of Food Additives", edible wax, as a food additive, can be used to treat the surface of fruits. Therefore, the reasonable use of edible wax does not bring harm to human body. If you want to remove the edible wax from fruits, you can remove it by peeling, washing with warm water or salt water.
