China Ranks First In World For Number Of Hydrogen Refuelling Stations

China has made a new breakthrough in hydrogen refuelling and has built more than 250 hydrogen refuelling stations, accounting for about 40% of the global number, ranking first in the world in the number of hydrogen refuelling stations.

This is the information disclosed by Liu Yafang, deputy director of the Department of Science and Technology of the National Energy Administration, at the "China International Economic Exchange Centre-United Nations Development Programme Hydrogen Energy Industry Summit Forum" recently.

She said that in order to cope with climate change, China, like other major economies in the world, attaches great importance to the development of hydrogen energy technology and industry. To date, more than 20 provinces have issued more than 200 hydrogen energy plans and guidelines. Encouraged by the state and local governments, state-owned enterprises, private enterprises and foreign enterprises have shown great enthusiasm for the development of the hydrogen energy industry, and the hydrogen energy industry in the three major regions of the Yangtze River Delta, Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay Area and Bohai Sea Rim has shown a cluster development trend.

In terms of hydrogen energy preparation, renewable energy hydrogen production projects are actively promoted in North China and Northwest China, and the cost of electrolytic water hydrogen production is steadily decreasing; in terms of hydrogen energy storage and transportation, 20 MPa gaseous high-pressure hydrogen storage and high-pressure tube bundle trailer transportation are the main features, and liquid hydrogen transportation and natural gas pipeline network hydrogen blending transportation are actively expanded.

In terms of diversified applications, in addition to traditional chemical, steel and other industrial fields, hydrogen energy is being steadily applied in other fields such as transportation, energy and construction. In the transportation sector, China is now focusing on buses and heavy trucks, and the number of vehicles powered by hydrogen fuel cells in operation exceeds 6,000, accounting for about 12 percent of the total number of vehicles in operation worldwide.

Liu Yafang said that the National Energy Administration attaches great importance to and actively promotes the development of hydrogen energy technology and industry. In recent years, it has actively promoted the development of the hydrogen energy industry by strengthening top-level design and macro guidance, promoting key technology and equipment research and development, exploring the efficient use of multiple scenarios, and establishing a sound standardization system.

Zhang Xiaoqiang, Executive Vice President of China Center for International Economic Exchanges, believes that in recent years, national, local and enterprise investment in R&D in the field of hydrogen energy has been increasing.
