The Latest Data! Total Retail Sales of Cosmetics Fell 6.3% in March
A few days ago, the National Bureau of Statistics released the retail sales data of consumer goods in the first quarter of 2022. In the first quarter, the total retail sales of cosmetics was 94.9 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 1.8%. The total retail sales of cosmetics in March was 34.5 billion yuan, down 6.3% year-on-year.
Cosmetics are significantly affected by the epidemic
Affected by the outbreak of the new crown epidemic in many places in China, the retail sales of many industries declined significantly in March. Among them, gold and silver jewelry, clothing, shoes and hats, and knitted textiles all fell by more than 10 percentage points.
Since March, Shanghai, Guangzhou and other densely populated areas of cosmetics companies have been seriously affected by the epidemic. At present, Shanghai beauty companies are basically still in a state of shutdown, which has a greater impact on the cosmetics industry. The total retail sales of cosmetics in March was 34.5 billion yuan, down 6.3% year-on-year.
It is worth noting that this is not the first time that cosmetics retail sales have declined. According to data previously released by the National Bureau of Statistics, affected by the epidemic, the retail sales of cosmetics in the first quarter of 2020 was 63.6 billion yuan, down 13.2% year-on-year; in March 2020, the retail sales of cosmetics was 24.9 billion yuan, down 11.6% year-on-year.
Judging from the overall development trend of cosmetics retailing in the first quarter, after experiencing a 41.4% surge in the first quarter of last year, the overall growth rate of cosmetics retailing has slowed down due to the impact of the epidemic.
Imports continued to decline, exports rose steadily
On April 18, the official website of the General Administration of Customs also released the statistics of major import and export commodities in March 2022. Among them, the value of imported cosmetics and toiletries was 12.93 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 14.37%; the quantity was 35,886.9 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 12.97%.
The amount of exported cosmetics and toiletries was 2.21 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 13.4%; the quantity was 78,288 tons, a year-on-year increase of 7.4%.
