Sanofi Spins Off Oral Antipsychotic Drug Teralithe
Recently, the foreign biopharmaceutical website FiercePharma reported that Sanofi has transferred the rights of the antipsychotic drug Teralithe LP 400mg long-acting preparation and Teralithe 250mg divisible tablet in France to Laboratoires DELBERT, and the two parties have signed on March 31 this year.
Teralithe LP 400mg and Teralithe 250mg, both oral antipsychotics, account for only a small percentage of Sanofi's pharmaceutical business sales. With this acquisition, Laboratoires DELBERT strengthens its CNS portfolio.
There are currently 14 products in the Laboratoires DELBERT portfolio, and sales are expected to reach more than EUR 30 million in 2022, with double-digit annual growth.
Laboratoires DELBERT co-founders Marc Childs and Thierry Hoffmann positioned the acquisition as part of the company's "ongoing commitment" to investing in medicinal product categories (MITMs) with significant therapeutic value and prioritizing these products for patients.
Last year, France started requiring MITM suppliers to keep their medicines in stock for at least two months. Earlier this year, the minimum inventory requirements for some of these products were changed, with 422 drugs increasing the minimum inventory to at least four months.
These inventory requirements are primarily made to prevent shortages of important medicines. But in some cases, they also impose product-related burdens on manufacturers, especially when those products are of little commercial importance to the company, and Laboratoires DELBERT will carve out a way in securing access to MITM Market segments.
At present, Laboratoires DELBERT has built a MITM product portfolio, which is positioned in 3 specific therapeutic areas: anti-infectives, central nervous system and oncology.
