China decided to impose tariffs on imports in the US of about $75 billion

On August 15, 2019, the U.S. government announced that it would impose a 10% tariff on some $300 billion of goods imported from China, which would be implemented in two batches starting from September 1 and December 15, 2019. The US measures have led to the escalation of Sino-US economic and trade frictions, greatly harming the interests of China, the United States and other countries, and seriously threatening the multilateral trading system and the principle of free trade.
In response to the above measures taken by the US side, China was forced to take counter-measures. In accordance with the Customs Law of the People's Republic of China, the Foreign Trade Law of the People's Republic of China, the Import and Export Tariff Regulations of the People's Republic of China and other basic principles of international law, and with the approval of the State Council, the Customs and Tariff Commission of the State Council has decided to add 5,078 items of tax originating in the United States and about $75 billion of goods. Tariffs of 10% and 5% will be levied in two batches starting at 12:01 on September 1 and 12:01 on December 15, 2019.
The Tariff and Tax Commission of the State Council will continue to work on the exclusion of tariff commodities imposed by the United States and Canada. In the list of goods of US$75 billion, the excluded goods determined by examination and verification shall not be levied the tariffs I imposed on the anti-US 301 measures according to the exclusion measures; if the goods not included in the first two batches of goods that can be excluded from the list, they shall be included in the third batch of goods that can be excluded from the list, and the acceptance measures shall be announced separately.
China's imposition of tariffs is a forced response to the unilateralism and trade protectionism of the United States. China reiterates once again that for China and the United States, cooperation is the only right choice, and win-win cooperation can lead to a better future. It is hoped that China and the United States will resolve their differences in a mutually acceptable manner on the premise of mutual respect, equality, trustworthiness in words and deeds, actively build a balanced, inclusive and win-win new economic and trade order between China and the United States, jointly safeguard and promote reform and improvement of the multilateral trading system, and promote mutual benefit and win-win cooperation with other countries in the world.
