Uses of Acetone

This is one of the most common uses for acetone. However, this is not the only thing that acetone can be used for. Acetone can also be used to clean oil off of a paper towel and paint off of your hands.

2. Methyl Cellosolve

Methyl cellosolve is a brand name for acetone that has been prepared with ethylene glycol and methanol; however, these are not the only ones that exist. There are many other brands that do things a little differently but use completely similar chemicals to create their product. This slightly modified chemical is used as a paint remover, anti-freeze, and in pharmaceuticals.

3. Pharmaceuticals

Acetone is used in pharmaceuticals because it is a solvent and an antibacterial, but there are some things that you need to know before you use your acetone in a pill. The acetone will leach out of the pill, so don't buy your acetone pills if you have constant stomach pain or something similar. Also, the acetone will corrode metals so see to it that you either buy textured brand or one that doesn't contain metal pans (Bronze). Take it easy on the lidocaine!

4. Adhesives

Acetone is used in adhesives because it works well as a solvent to bind the adhesive materials together. There are two kinds of adhesives that are used with acetone: methylethylketoxime (MEK) and methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP). These adhesives are primarily used in the aerospace industry and there is little concern for human exposure.

5. Turpentine

Turpentine is an old-fashioned solvent that has been used for multiple decades to clean paint brushes and make brushes more fray-resistant. This may also explain what type of molecule is acetone. 7. Cat Litter
