ExxonMobil and Total to take part in large LNG expansion project in Qatar

ECHEMI 2022-06-15

Companies such as Exxon Mobil and Total Energy will be involved in the expansion of the world's largest LNG project in Qatar.

ExxonMobil, Total, Shell and ConocoPhillips are part of Qatar's existing LNG production, joined by Chevron and Italy's Eni in bidding for the expansion in May 2021.

The $30 billion expansion of the North oil and gas field will boost Qatar’s LNG production by 64% to 126 million tons per year by 2027, strengthening its position as the world’s largest exporter of ultra-cold fuel and helping secure long-term shipments to Europe. Supply natural gas.

Qatar Energy decided to make the final investment decision to develop the North oil and gas field expansion project on its own, but began bidding to seek partners to share the financial risks of the development.

While a decision has been made, an official announcement of the winning bidders may not be announced until later this month, one of the sources said. ExxonMobil CEO Darren Woods will attend a Qatar Energy-related energy conference later in June.

Qatar Energy said it would hold a press conference and signing ceremony on June 12, but did not specify a specific theme.

Exxon and Total declined to comment. Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Shell and Eni did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
