Cologne KROHNE and SAMSON Establish Joint Venture Company

On September 19, 2019, KROHNE and SAMSON held a press conference in Frankfurt, on the banks of the Main River to officially announce the birth of the joint venture FOCUS-ON. Under the background of German process industry 4.0, FOCUS-ON came into being, devoted to the development, production and sales of automation execution agencies. FoCUS-ON is registered in Dodrecht, Netherlands, and Cologne shares the same shares as SAMSON. Based on more than 25 years of global marketing cooperation between the two companies, Dr. Andreas Widl, CEO of SAMSON Group, and Stephan Neuburger, CEO of Cologne Company initiated the intention of establishing strategic partnership in the field of process instrumentation, and finally established FOCUS-ON joint venture. Dr. Widl firmly believes that in the digital age, innovation can only be led through cooperation. Partners must have absolute trust and focus on the same level. "We fused ideas and FOCUS-ON came into being," Neuburger said. It bundles innovative approaches to decentralized control and predictive maintenance, and makes intelligent process nodes the first product to be launched. Dr. Thomas steckenreiter, chief technology officer of Samson, explained the technical motivation of developing modules: "with focus-on, we are taking a decisive step towards an independent factory, which can optimize our own products at the same time." Dr Attila Bilgic, Cologne's chief technology officer, added: "Developing adaptive control functions is only the first step, and more importantly, integrating diagnostic functions with artificial intelligence. Our automated executing agency can understand its current state, predict its future state, and be able to learn and adapt to working conditions.
Intelligent Process Node combines sensors, actuators and controls. The module measures the flow rate in the pipeline and adjusts its valve function independently to achieve a specific set value. Neuburger concluded: "We believe that this product can significantly reduce the complexity of the equipment. Its main advantages include better and more effective control of resources and the ability to optimize the process through a large number of diagnostics, which will greatly improve the utilization of equipment.
Because of the integration of flow, temperature and pressure measurement sensors, the device can identify and predict cavitation phenomena, and can avoid or significantly reduce the increase of stress and the wear of valves and pipes. As a result, factories can operate uninterruptedly without long shutdowns.
