Johnson & Johnson will recall 33, 000 bottles of baby powder

Sina American Stock Co., Ltd. this marks the first time that Johnson & Johnson recalled baby talcum powder due to possible asbestos pollution. Johnson & Johnson said Friday it will recall about 33000 bottles of baby powder in the United States. Earlier, U.S. health regulators found traces of asbestos in baby powder samples purchased online. The move marks the first time Johnson & Johnson recalled baby talcum powder due to possible asbestos pollution, and also the first time that US regulators announced the discovery of asbestos in Johnson & Johnson talcum powder. Asbestos is a known carcinogen. Johnson & Johnson said the voluntary recall was limited to a batch of Johnson & Johnson baby powder produced and shipped in the United States in 2018. In a press release, Johnson said the FDA found no asbestos in talcum powder in tests conducted a month ago. The U.S. healthcare group is facing about 15000 lawsuits filed by plaintiffs who claim that the use of Johnson & Johnson talcum powder products can cause cancer. In a conference call, Johnson & Johnson said it received a FDA report on October 17 to alert the company to asbestos findings. The company said it had begun an investigation and was reviewing production records to determine where the product was shipped. Johnson added that it was working with the FDA to determine the integrity of the test samples and the validity of the test results. In a report to customers, Larry biegelsen, an analyst at Wells Fargo, said the recall could trigger more lawsuits and prompt the company to seek a broader settlement. Biegelsen estimates that the settlement may cost the company $2-6 billion, assuming that there are 20000 outstanding cases and the settlement amount is $100000-300000 per person.
