LyondellBasell builds new PE plant in Texas

ECHEMI 2022-07-07

LyondellBasell is considering a new polyethylene unit at its production site near Corpus Christi, Texas, according to documents filed with the Texas State Audit Office in April and May, according to U.S. media.

The company plans to start construction in the first quarter of 2024 and target completion by the end of 2028. These documents are part of the tax relief application. LyondellBasell is also considering a site near its Louisiana production site, the documents said. The document does not state the polyethylene grade or the production capacity involved.

LyondellBasell operates a 1.13 million-ton/year steam cracker at its plant near Corpus Christi, as well as five other crackers in Texas, Iowa and Illinois. The company also operates nine polyethylene units in Texas, Illinois and Iowa.

In addition, LyondellBasell operates a 1.5-million-ton/year cracker and two polyethylene units in Lake Charles, Louisiana, as part of a joint venture with Sasol in South Africa.
