Blue Book of the city: more than 80% of the cities in China are 'sub healthy'

China's urban development report No.12 was released today. The blue book comprehensively evaluates the healthy development of 288 cities above prefecture level. The results show that in 2018, 35 cities in China are in a relatively healthy development state, accounting for 12% of the total number of cities in China, and more than 80% of them are in a "sub healthy" state. The blue book is jointly published by the Institute of urban development and environment of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the social sciences literature press. Blue book comprehensively evaluates the healthy development of 288 cities above prefecture level. The results show that in 2018, ten cities including Shenzhen, Beijing, Shanghai, Zhuhai, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Ningbo, Hangzhou, Suzhou and Xiamen ranked in the top 10 in the city health development index, including four cities, five cities and one city from the Pearl River Delta, the Yangtze River Delta and the Beijing Tianjin Hebei Urban Agglomeration. The index scores of the top cities are not balanced, and there are "short boards" in the healthy development of cities.
The evaluation measures the median of five indexes of health economy, health culture, health society, health environment and health management from the national level, and then compares the specific indexes of each city with them. If the five indicators of a city are higher than the median of all cities, that is to say, the development level of the city is above the medium level, then the development status of the city can be considered as relatively healthy, otherwise it is considered as a sub healthy city. The evaluation results show that in 2018, 35 cities in China are in a relatively healthy development state, accounting for 12% of the total number of cities in China. There are 45 sub-health cities of category I, accounting for 15.6% of the total number of cities in China; 71 sub-health cities of category II, accounting for 24.7% of the total number of cities in China; 137 sub-health cities of category III, accounting for 47.57% of the total number of cities in China. This means that nearly half of the cities in the country are in class III sub-health status. In the five aspects of economy, society, culture, environment and management, at least three or more health indicators are lower than the national median level, and the health development status is not optimistic. From the regional perspective, 25.29% of the cities in the East, 10% in the middle, 4.60% in the west, and only one in the northeast, 82.35% in the third sub-health status, have reached the relative health level.
