India GAIL to start production of polypropylene production line
Recently, Natural Gas of India Limited (GAIL) announced that the company will put into operation two new polypropylene (PP) units by the second quarter of 2025, with a combined total capacity of 560,000 tons per year. The 60,000 t/yr PP line in northern Uttar Pradesh will start production in January 2024, while the 500,000 t/yr PP line in western Maharashtra is scheduled to start production in April 2025, sources said.
In addition, the new PP line in Maharashtra has a 500,000 t/y propane dehydrogenation unit upstream, which will supply propylene feedstock to the line. "Work is underway on both projects and we hope to be up and running within the stipulated time frame," a company source said.
GAIL currently operates a 200,000 t/y high-density polyethylene (HDPE) unit, two 230,000 t/y and 400,000 t/y linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE)/ HDPE flexible unit, and a 10,000-ton/year butene-1 production line.
